WHY PORCH PORTRAITS?

The Porch Portrait Project is an amazing opportunity for you to record this moment in history while receiving a professional portrait of you with the ones you love at this rare time when you are all together.

I am not only taking portraits of you and your family, but I am also allowing you the opportunity to share a message that will be documented for this generation, and all the generations to come. Take a marker and a large piece of paper and write whatever you want, good, bad, inspirational, silly…whatever you are feeling at that time and moment. I will have you display your signs for a second portrait in a larger effort to document what we, as a collective are feeling.

I was compelled to create the Porch Portrait Project, not only to fill a creative void while my studio is shuttered but also to document this uncertain time while doing what I could to make a difference. During this time of quarantine, I have found myself without work and no creative outlet. Photographing portraits of people on their porch or in their yard at a safe social distance seemed perfect.

IS IT SAFE “ SOCIAL DISTANCING” CONTACT?

Yes. I will definitely be practicing ”social distancing” as required by the current administration. I will keep a safe distance of at least 20 feet. I am photographing with a 200m telephoto lens which allows me to keep my distance. I can shoot from the middle of the street, in your driveway, or even from my car.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST & WHAT IS IN IT FOR ME?

This is a FREE, NO FEE, NO CHARGE project! There is no cost, no purchase, and no commitment. After taking your porch portraits, I will edit the images and will email all participants one or two fully edited, high-resolution digital files. You can do whatever you want with your professional portrait. Print it, post it or just keep it on your phone. I will also be creating a gallery of all the project images for all to see and enjoy.

WHO IS BRIAN THE PHOTOGRAPHER?

My name is Brian Powers. I am a full-time professional portrait photographer with a studio in the Park Trades Center, downtown Kalamazoo. I am also the primary photographer for the Southwest Michigan publication ENCORE Magazine, a contracted photographer for Bronson Hospital, Hour Media, and the University of Michigan among other publishers and advertisers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

For you to participate, I will need to collect your email and address information through the form below. I need your email information to send you the digital file of your portraits. I need your phone number to text you when I arrive. I also need your approval to use your photo for social media and prints. I will not be displaying your last name or address on any social media posts or print projects without your prior consent. Once you fill in and submit the form, I will contact you to schedule a time to take your Professional Porch Portrait!

Please join me in documenting this pivotal point in human history while sending your personal message to the world.
